Dave enlisted at a young age and the recruiter told him, "You can go tomorrow if you want ranger school." He grabbed the chance (originally he was going to go into the Navy, but it was taking too long).

"I thought it was something like being a forest ranger," he told me years later. "Next thing I know I'm jumping out of airplanes!"
