The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone free of charge with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide, and are trained and IRS-certified every year.

The Cass County COA is proud to partner with the AARP Foundation to provide this free service. Last year, our local Tax Team of Volunteers served over 2,000 hours preparing 285 individual tax returns for our community.

Past tax seasons, the COA’s Tax Team has been able to prepare nearly 600 returns; however, 2021 came with its own set of challenges beginning with the IRS delaying the date they would begin accepting returns along with social distancing restrictions and extending the due date.

Our Tax Team of Volunteers bravely took on this new challenge and made every best effort to serve as many community members as possible during this unprecedented tax season.

As we prepare for this year's tax season we are facing similar challenges.  At this time the COA and the AARP tax assistance volunteers do not have a specific beginning date for this service.

We hope to begin setting appointments by mid to late February.
