With a growing number of contaminants found in water, now it is as important as ever to check the quality of water at your home.
The Cass County Conservation District along with the Michigan Agriculture and Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) are glad to work with you on taking the first steps to assessing your water quality for nitrates and nitrites in your well water.
To ensure an accurate reading, please come with a small water sample (less than 24 hours old) that is in a sealed, sterile container (such as a clean jelly jar) directly from your well - not through any filtration or water softener system. Make sure to run the water for a minimum of five minutes before collecting the sample.
If your home’s faucet is connected to a water softener, take the sample from an outside spigot (such as where a garden hose attaches to a home).
Tests take only a minute to complete, and are free.
District staff will also provide educational materials and discuss your water test results with you.
